Entry 01
The Story So Far
Collin has suffered from heart failure since May 2022 after a bout with COVID. Since then, he’s done everything he can to manage and maintain his heart function through diet and medications. Despite being significantly limited in doing the things he loves, Collin has pushed through like a trooper.
Collin was admitted to the hospital on June 16 and after a series of labs and tests, he was ultimately transferred to Methodist Hospital’s Heart and Transplant Unit. On July 9, Collin was placed on the transplant list for a heart and kidney, as the organs are very interconnected. Both organs will come from the same donor and the surgeries will be done consecutively within 24 hours of each other. He will also remain in the hospital until he receives his new organs, which could be a 3 to 6 month wait, but this is an estimate. After transplant, the first 12 months will be critical to ensure that he's healing properly and the anti-rejection medications are working as expected.
Though we don’t know how long the journey will be, Collin is taking a step each day! We’re sensitive to the organ donation process and what it means, but are optimistic for this second chance that Collin will have at life.
Throughout this period, we’ll chronicle the process so you won’t have to ask “How’s Collin Doing?”
