At 6'6" Collin is above average height, which reduces the pool for donors. Hence, the longer estimated wait time.

Collin’s connected to a machine called the Impella, a catheter-based miniaturized heart pump that temporarily assists circulation and unloads the heart. This device is monitored 24/7 by Colln’s care team (nurses, internal medicine, cardio, nephrology, and transplant) and he’s not able to leave the hospital.

Collin suffers from cardio-renal syndrome, which means that his reduced heart function is affecting his kidneys. There is a chance that his kidneys could recover with the increased blood flow from his Impella device. However, his surgery team would like to have the option in case he needs it.

Update as of July 13: Collin’s kidneys are back in action, so he no longer qualifies for a kidney. GOD DID!

Due to the criticality of his care (and other’s waiting for hearts), Collin is in one of the most secure units in the hospital.

He is allowed up to 2 visitors at a time, who must mask and foam in and out. He’s not allowed outside food, or flowers and plants (as these can carry bugs with diseases).
